Thoughts From Mars

A rocky planet like ours, Mars is close enough that we can reach it more easily than the gaseous giants beyond the Kuiper Belt, but far enough that we can still wonder at it.

A deep-space nebula against a starfield

If I were to write a title for this section of the website, I would call it Thoughts From Mars. Though this is a strange title, I feel it fits, because the title reflects my own tendencies to dream and desire ambitiously, and my writing style often references lofty goals and ideas.

While I hardly think of myself as an intellectual, I often feel that I observe the world from a separate perspective that still remains close to human feeling without becoming too detached. A rocky planet like ours, Mars is close enough that we can reach it more easily than the gaseous giants beyond the Kuiper Belt, but far enough that we can still wonder at it shining in our sky and imagine oceans running on its prehistoric surface, far outside our experience.

I think a lot of people feel as though their thoughts lie separate from the world, like Mars, but still feel too close to humanity to reject it entirely. I think many, in some way, socially, emotionally, or culturally, feel as though we come from Mars in many settings. Worst of all, we refuse to share those feelings with the world for fear of being shunned, leading to greater personal isolation and shame.

Though I doubt that my ideas alone will change the world, by sharing my "thoughts from Mars," I hope to unburden myself of that isolation and shame, and choose honesty, kindness, and hope as my new truth. In the end, I hope to connect with others and make the world a better place, but I must be open with others and myself first. I hope by writing, I am able to do that in some capacity.
